The 1st LACAME was organized in 1988 by Profs. Jacques Danon, Elisa Baggio-Saitovitch and Rosa Scorzelli, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The initial purpose of the LACAME was to start scientific interactions among the Latin American researcher groups from different institutions working with Mössbauer spectroscopy. The scientific interactions among the Latin American groups are now systematically occurring. In that sense, the exchange of postgraduate students has been clearly increased; visiting scientists have spent their sabbatical periods in different Latin American research institutions; scientific projects are prepared and applied for collaboration in financial supports, etc. Therefore, in this moment when the first LACAME cycle (started in 1988 at Rio) is being closed, it is time to consolidate and to expand the collaboration between the Latin American groups, since it is still further from the desired status. In addition, the LACAME is the best opportunity to share experiences gained in the process by each of the different countries as well as a good opportunity for the students of Latin American countries to discuss their researches with specialists of Latin America and abroad (invited speakers) that work with the same experimental characterization technique. Finally, the LACAME’2020 organization group is spending additional effort in order to stimulate scientific and technological interactions among the Latin American research groups and industries. In that respect, it is being proposed a round-table and a specific meeting session for invited industry representatives where the potential for technological application of Mössbauer spectroscopy will be shown.
